Why a mild Vancouver winter still needs a service budget
A Downtown entrance, an East Vancouver townhouse route and a West Side residential driveway are different jobs. Start with the surfaces to clear rather than the building footprint or number of homes. Vancouver service can involve substantial pedestrian work even when there is little room for a truck. Seasonal pricing also needs to support available crews, suitable equipment and backup; those costs do not disappear when snowfall is limited.
Separate common routes from extra work
Mark the public frontage, common walkways, entrances and vehicle areas on a plan. A corner property may have two sidewalk frontages. Identify whether a parkade ramp, parking stalls or individual-unit access is requested. PlowWow’s agreed common-route scope includes the stairs and landings along that route. Paths and stairs to individual units require specific agreement, as do ramps and other additions. This keeps a preliminary estimate from quietly including work nobody intended to buy.
Understand the ice-control allowance
A combined snow-and-salt allowance and an additional salt-only allowance represent different work. Our working pricing model uses half a combined allowance for an extra salt-only visit; the accepted quote establishes the actual package and terms. Do not count the treatment already included with clearing again as an extra visit. Discuss shaded entrances, runoff, drains and repeat treatment with the contractor rather than assuming a snowfall count predicts every dispatch.
Compare the whole seasonal agreement
Ask for the service dates, full amount before GST, payment schedule, clearing trigger and attendance terms. Identify repeat-pass arrangements, any limits and how extraordinary weather is handled. Loading, relocating piles and hauling snow off site are additional unless agreed. Tight storage in urban properties makes this an important question before the first storm, not after the piles block access.
Get a reviewed Vancouver price
Send PlowWow your address, marked service areas, access restrictions and requested service window. Nearby compatible properties may reduce travel, but any discount needs a real route saving and a workable backup plan. Our pricing calculator is being developed as part of the Snow Intelligence app rollout planned for 2026. Reviewed property quotes are available now; an online enquiry does not reserve a route or guarantee an arrival time.
